Wednesday November 12th 2025 - 11:55am Valve Showcases New Additions To Hardware Line

This morning Valve released a video announcing 3 new additions to their hardware line including, a new "Steam Controller," "Steam Machine" PC, and "Steam Frame" VR headset. The new hardware line is not yet available for order but is to be shipped early 2026 according to the announcement video.

The Steam Controller will have the full suite of functions found on the Steam Deck; dual trackpads, haptic feedback, grip buttons, full sized controls, cap-sense thumbsticks, custom bindings, and more. The lithium ion battery will last for over 35 hours of play time, and will be rechargeable via "The Puck," a wireless adapter / magnetic charger that comes included. The Steam Controller can be used with any device running Steam or Steam Link.

The Steam Machine is a console styled ultra compact PC running Steam OS, Valve stated in their video that it will be capable of full PC functionality. It has 6 times the power of the Steam Deck, and a semi-custom AMD GPU capable of 4k at 60 frames per second with FSR. Many features from the Steam Deck have been carried over such as Steam Chat, Remote Play, access to the Steam Store, and an SD card slot for memory expansion. The Steam Machine features an LED strip on the front to display various system functions, and can also be used for aesthetic purposes. The Steam Machine will be capable of streaming games to phone, tablet, laptop, or Steam Frame.

The wireless Steam Frame VR Heaset allows for streaming of VR as well non-VR titles, and runs SteamOS and is capable of playing games directly off the headset without a PC. The included Steam Frame Controllers have a split gamepad layout to expand on functionality across titles, and have the expected functions of VR controllers such as motion controls and capacitive tracking. The wireless USB adapter is streamed via Wi-Fi 6. Storage is expandable by SD card.

Valve's side by side release of these 3 additions to their hardware offerings was strategic, with the Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame Headset all meant to be seamlessly integrated across the Steam ecosystem. Internet users expressed overwhelming excitement about the news, with GameCube references quickly becoming a meme alongside a general sentiment that it will outperform all existing console competitors. With the pricing on these additions still unknown, some social media users expressed concern about a potentially prohibitive price point as others made hopeful speculation on affordability, although most seemed to agree the devices themselves were exciting tech.
